Apple Siri AI Beta in iOS 27 Uses Models Built With Google

From a June demo to the public release

Apple's 2027 software releases, iOS 27 among them, became available on September 14, 2026, and with them Siri AI began rolling out in beta in English. French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish were due the following month. It needs an Apple Intelligence device, which Apple lists as iPhone 16 models or later, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, and iPads and Macs with an M1 chip or later, among others. [1]

Apple introduced Siri AI on June 8 with developer testing and promised a beta later in the year. TechCrunch reported that the iOS 27 public beta in July was the first time Apple had made it widely available beyond developers. CNBC reported that at the September release users still had to opt in, and might have to join a waitlist first. [4][3][2]

Gemini underneath, and limits on top

Apple says the new capabilities run on the next generation of Apple Foundation Models, custom-built in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models, on device and on Apple's Private Cloud Compute servers. That follows the multi-year collaboration Apple and Google announced in January, under which the next generation of Apple Foundation Models would be based on Google's Gemini models and cloud technology. Siri AI is not initially available in the EU on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch, and it is not available in China while Apple works through regulatory requirements. Features that rely on Apple's server-side models, Siri AI among them, are subject to daily usage limits, and Apple says expanded access will be offered for a fee in the future. [1]
