A Siri rebuilt around personal context
Apple introduced Siri AI at WWDC on June 8, 2026 as an entirely new version of Siri powered by Apple Intelligence. Apple said it could draw on personal context across messages, emails and photos, answer questions about what is on screen, take actions across apps and answer questions from the web on almost any topic. It also added a dedicated app for revisiting conversations, and on iPhone users could start it from the side button or by swiping down from the Dynamic Island. [1]
Apple said Siri AI runs on the next generation of Apple Foundation Models, on device and on servers using Private Cloud Compute, where it says personal data is neither stored nor made accessible to Apple. The June release did not mention Google, although Apple and Google had announced in January that the next generation of Apple Foundation Models would be based on Google's Gemini models and cloud technology. [1][4]
Developers first, a user beta later
Developers could test Siri AI from the day of the announcement in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 and visionOS 27, with watchOS 27 to follow. Apple promised a beta for users later in the year on supported devices set to English. It said Siri AI would not initially be available in the EU on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, and would not be available in China while it worked through regulatory requirements. [1]
Atlas interpretation: The June announcement set out most of what shipped. When Siri AI reached the public on September 14, it was still labelled beta and started in English, with the same EU and China limits, and Apple's release that day described the models as built in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models.
