Zed introduces AI editing with Anthropic

Zed Industries introduced Zed AI on August 20, 2024 in collaboration with Anthropic. The release brought a hosted Claude 3.5 Sonnet assistant panel and inline code changes into the editor, with an initial free access period. The teams also worked around prompt caching for the editing workflow. [1]

The launch did not put every announced capability into general availability. Fast Edit remained an invitation-only beta. These access stages matter more than treating the whole announcement as an unrestricted release or a publication of the underlying model's weights. [1]
