Stanford launches its Human-Centered AI institute

Stanford formally launched the Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence with an inaugural symposium, connecting AI research, education and policy across the university.

A university-wide AI institute

Stanford formally launched HAI on March 18, 2019, alongside an inaugural symposium. The institute connected AI research with human and social questions, education and policy, rather than establishing a separate commercial model developer. [1][2]

The university announcement, dated event schedule and contemporary report agree on the day. The formal institute launch followed an earlier human-centered AI initiative; institutions represented by invited speakers were not thereby co-founders. [1][2][3]
