A holding company above Google
Google completed its holding-company reorganization on October 2, 2015. Alphabet's filing says the transaction made it the owner of all outstanding Google stock and the successor public issuer. Existing Google shares converted into corresponding Alphabet shares, while Google remained an operating company. [1]
The event is the completed institutional change, rather than an AI model release or the earlier announcement of a plan. Contemporary coverage explicitly identified October 2 as completion. The resulting structure matters to the later AI record because research, infrastructure and products sit within a group whose listed parent allocates resources across businesses. [2][1]
