Alphabet

Alphabet is the holding company above Google. It allocates capital and shared AI research costs across a group that develops models, cloud infrastructure and AI products, while Google remains a separate operating company.

The holding company above the operating business

Alphabet became Google's parent through a completed holding-company reorganization on October 2, 2015. The filing says Alphabet owned all outstanding Google capital stock and became the successor public issuer. Google continued as an operating company; the transaction did not simply rename every Google product or research group Alphabet. [1]

Alphabet's AI role includes capital allocation and shared research infrastructure. Its fiscal 2025 filing identifies certain general-model development costs, employee compensation and infrastructure usage as Alphabet-level AI research and development. Other technical infrastructure costs are managed centrally and allocated to operating segments. [2]

That structure connects the listed parent to Google Cloud, Google's products and the group's model research without treating the holding company as the team that authored each release. The Atlas therefore represents Alphabet's own reorganization and corporate role, while model and product events retain the organizations that actually took part. [2][1]
