DARPA runs the Cyber Grand Challenge final

Seven autonomous cyber-reasoning systems competed in Las Vegas to analyze, exploit and patch software in a Capture the Flag test. DARPA named ForAllSecure’s Mayhem the presumptive winner, with verification and awards to follow.

Machine reasoning in a controlled competition

DARPA’s final on August 4 tested autonomous systems against unfamiliar software in a Capture the Flag environment. Mayhem, built by the ForAllSecure team, led the preliminary results. DARPA planned overnight verification and the official awards ceremony for Friday, August 5; the Atlas dates this entry to the competition, not the later awards. [1][2]

ForAllSecure later changed its corporate name to Mayhem Security. That current organization name identifies the historical contributor here, while the event prose retains the name used in 2016. The competition demonstrated techniques for software security under its test conditions, not a general guarantee about production systems. [3][1]
