What Wiz sells

Wiz sells cloud security software: it scans a customer's cloud accounts without installing an agent on every workload, builds a graph connecting code, cloud infrastructure and runtime activity, and uses that graph to flag which vulnerabilities and misconfigurations actually sit on an exploitable path rather than listing every finding with equal weight. Assaf Rappaport, Yinon Costica, Roy Reznik and Ami Luttwak founded the company in January 2020; the same four had previously built and sold Adallom, a cloud security startup, to Microsoft in 2015. [3][4]

The company grew unusually fast for enterprise security software: from $1 million to $100 million in annual recurring revenue in about eighteen months by mid-2022, and to roughly $700 million in ARR by the time Google agreed to buy it in March 2025, with more than 65 percent of the Fortune 100 among its customers. It raised close to $1.9 billion in venture funding across five rounds, most recently a $1 billion round in May 2024 that valued the company at $12 billion. [4][5]

A deal that fell apart once, then didn't

Google first tried to buy Wiz in the summer of 2024, at roughly $23 billion. That deal collapsed over antitrust exposure, disagreement about how much autonomy Wiz would keep inside Google Cloud, and reportedly the price itself. Wiz kept operating independently, raised more money at higher valuations, including a reported secondary sale near a $16 billion valuation, and kept growing revenue. [5]

On March 18, 2025, Google announced a new agreement to acquire Wiz, this time for $32 billion in cash, the largest acquisition in Alphabet's history. The gap between the two prices, roughly $9 billion in under a year, reflects both Wiz's continued growth and a security market Google judged worth paying more to enter. [6][5]

The deal took almost a year to clear regulatory review. Google completed the acquisition on March 11, 2026, folding Wiz into Google Cloud as a distinct unit. Google's announcement committed to keeping Wiz's products working across Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud as well as its own, not only Google Cloud, a commitment aimed at customers who worried an acquisition by a cloud provider would turn a multicloud security tool into a single-cloud one. [2]

Why a security company, not a model company

Atlas interpretation: Wiz is not an AI lab, and it does not appear on the timeline for a model it shipped. It matters here for two reasons. First, the deal itself is a data point about how the largest cloud vendors are spending: Google's biggest acquisition ever went to cloud security rather than to a model company, at a moment when every big cloud provider was also spending record sums on AI compute. Second, Wiz's own pitch has increasingly folded AI into the product it sells, scanning for exposed AI infrastructure and using its own automated agents for tasks like generating fixes and running penetration tests, which makes it a supplier of security tooling for the infrastructure the rest of this page is about, not just a company that happens to be adjacent to it.
