Testing and protecting AI applications
Robust Intelligence built security technology for AI models and applications, including automated red teaming and an AI firewall. Cisco now places that work within its AI Defense and Foundation AI offerings. The historical company is distinct from those later product and research brands. [1]
The acquisition record
Cisco announced its plan to acquire Robust Intelligence on August 26, 2024. Its original announcement subsequently added an explicitly dated September 24 update stating that the acquisition was complete. That later update, rather than the original announcement day, establishes completion in this source. [2]
Why it belongs in AI history
The deal brought specialized AI testing and protection into a large networking and security supplier. The relevant distinction is between securing software with AI and securing the AI models and applications themselves: Robust Intelligence supplied capabilities for the latter alongside Cisco's broader security business. [2][1]
Current descriptions connect the acquired technology to Cisco's later offerings. They do not establish that every capability of those offerings existed at acquisition or that a research demonstration measures protection against all real-world attacks. [1]
