Measurement and standards for AI

The National Institute of Standards and Technology is a federal agency within the Department of Commerce, founded in 1901. Its measurement-science and standards work supplies a basis for comparing technologies and assessing their properties. In AI, that role includes risk-management guidance and evaluation methods. A released framework for managing risk

NIST released AI RMF 1.0 and its companion Playbook in January 2023. The framework organizes work around Govern, Map, Measure and Manage across an AI system’s life cycle. It is intended for voluntary use, so publication of the document did not itself enact a legal duty on model developers. [2][3]
