AI inside the IDE

JetBrains builds integrated development environments and AI tools for software development. Its AI Assistant helps with tasks inside those environments, while Junie is a coding agent that can work through a larger task using the project and IDE tools. These are JetBrains products; their use of language models does not make every underlying model a JetBrains release. [1]

JetBrains introduced Junie on January 23, 2025. The initial announcement offered early access through a waitlist, with support focused on IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate and PyCharm on macOS and Linux. The agent could plan work, use the development environment and produce changes for a developer to inspect. The date marks a preview announcement, rather than unrestricted public availability. [2]
