A company name and two product roles

Fin is the company formerly named Intercom. In its May 2026 rename, the chief executive explicitly distinguished the company from its products: Fin became the corporate name, while Intercom continued as the helpdesk platform. This is name continuity within the same business, rather than an acquisition of an unrelated chatbot. [1]

Its product range combines a customer-facing AI agent with the support software and integrations around it. The agent can be used with Intercom or connected to other helpdesks, allowing a business to adopt automated service without replacing every existing support system. [4]

Specialist models and completed ownership

The company also develops Apex, models post-trained for customer-service tasks. Its March 2026 account described the move toward a specialist response model while retaining other providers within the broader system. The reported performance advantage is the vendor's evaluation, not independent proof of superiority across every customer workload. [2]

On September 10, 2026, Salesforce announced that it had completed the acquisition of Fin, following an earlier agreement. The notice dates the announcement without separately disclosing the legal closing day. The closing statement places Fin within Salesforce's AI Labs and says it will continue serving customers and developing models. That completed transaction supports the current ownership relationship.
