Retrieval before generation

Elastic’s ELSER model expands text into weighted, learned term associations for semantic retrieval in Elasticsearch. That sparse representation differs from dense embedding vectors and from an LLM generating an answer. Current documentation marks ELSER V2 generally available while retaining V1 as a technical preview. [2]

Adding dense and multimodal search models

Elastic announced the completed Jina AI acquisition on October 9, 2025. The addition brought multilingual and multimodal embeddings, rerankers and researchers alongside its existing retrieval tools. The announcement’s future Elastic Inference Service plans are separate from proven same-day availability of every model. [1]

The subsequent filing gives October 7 as the legal acquisition date for 100% of Conic AI Technology Limited and its subsidiaries, collectively called Jina AI. That closing date is distinct from the public announcement two days later. [3]
