A cloud platform for building AI applications
DigitalOcean's AI role combines infrastructure with managed application services. Its platform lets developers connect customer data to foundation models, add retrieval and function calling, and deploy an agent without operating every serving component themselves. [1][2]
At Deploy 25 in Austin, DigitalOcean opened its GenAI Platform to all customers on January 22, 2025, following a private preview. Contemporary coverage corroborates the launch and describes its focus on smaller development teams. [1][3]
In July 2025, DigitalOcean announced general availability under the GradientAI name, explicitly identifying it as the former GenAI Platform. That account added managed agent routing and serverless inference to the product's role. The company supplies hosting and orchestration; access to another developer's model does not establish that DigitalOcean trained it. [2]
