The physical network around AI computing
Corning manufactures optical fiber, cable and connectivity products. These carry data through and between data-center systems, complementing the processors that train and serve AI models. Its AI infrastructure role is physical connectivity and manufacturing, rather than accelerator design. [1]
A supply agreement with manufacturing consequences
Corning and Meta announced a multiyear agreement in January 2026 covering up to $6 billion in optical connectivity supply. Corning said it would expand North Carolina capacity, with Meta as an anchor customer at its Hickory cable facility. [1]
Commitments and realized capacity differ
The agreement links a named customer to a substantial supply expansion. Its maximum value is not evidence that the whole amount has already been spent, and announced manufacturing expansion is not proof that every new facility is operational. Those distinctions keep the commercial milestone separate from later delivery. [1]
