A prompt goes in, a deck or prototype comes out on brand
Claude Design is a research preview that turns a written description into a prototype, slide deck or one-pager. A user describes what they want, Claude produces a first version, and the user refines it through direct edits or follow-up requests. To keep results consistent with a team's existing look, the tool reads a company's codebase and design files rather than starting from a blank template. Finished work exports to PDF, PPTX, a shareable URL, or into Canva for further collaborative editing. It runs on Claude Opus 4.7 and is available to Claude Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise subscribers. [1]
Atlas interpretation: Reading a codebase for this purpose is a narrower claim than reading a brand guide. It lets Claude Design match component names, color tokens or copy already checked into a repository, which is a different and more mechanical task than judging what looks good. [1]
Built for the person without a designer on hand
Anthropic pitched the tool at founders and product managers without design training, describing it as a way to share ideas more easily rather than as a replacement for a design team's own tools. That target audience puts Claude Design closer in spirit to Claude Code, which handed a non-specialist agent access to a repository, and to Cowork, which extended a Claude agent to work outside the terminal, than to a professional creative suite. Figma's own investors treated it as the threat
By July 2026, coverage of Figma's stock cited fear of AI-native competition, specifically Claude Design, as the reason shares fell even after Figma reported 46 percent revenue growth and doubled earnings for the first quarter; the stock lost 29 percent in June alone. The concern reported was that generative design tools could commoditize design work over time, making a collaborative platform like Figma's less essential, and that Figma's own credit-based AI pricing was an early, only partly proven response. [2]
Atlas interpretation: That reaction is evidence about how Figma's market read the product's positioning, not evidence that Claude Design displaced professional design tools in practice. A tool aimed at founders and product managers making their own decks and prototypes competes for a different task than the collaborative, component-level editing a design team does in Figma, even if investors priced in the overlap.
