Anthropic Expands Google and Broadcom TPU Capacity Deal

Anthropic signed for multiple gigawatts of next-generation Google TPU capacity expected from 2027. Broadcom disclosed a conditional 3.5-gigawatt route through its supply chain.

A larger Google TPU allocation, due from 2027

Anthropic said it had signed a new agreement with Google and Broadcom for multiple gigawatts of next-generation TPU capacity. It expected that capacity to begin coming online in 2027, rather than saying it was already installed or available in April. [1]

Google Cloud described the same expansion as a combination of its cloud services and access to Google-built TPUs supplied through Broadcom. It said the additional capacity would support Anthropic's development of foundation models, agents and enterprise applications. [3]

Broadcom named a 3.5-gigawatt path through its supply chain

In an April 6 filing, Broadcom said it and Google had entered a long-term agreement for Broadcom to develop and supply custom TPUs for future Google generations, plus a supply-assurance agreement for networking and other components in Google's next-generation AI racks through as late as 2031. [2]

The same filing said that, under the expanded three-way collaboration, Anthropic would access approximately 3.5 gigawatts through Broadcom beginning in 2027, as part of the multiple gigawatts it had committed. Broadcom made consumption conditional on Anthropic's continued commercial success and said the parties were still discussing operational and financial partners for the deployment. [2]

More Google capacity without an exclusive hardware bet

Anthropic said it trained and ran Claude across AWS Trainium, Google TPUs and NVIDIA GPUs, while naming Amazon as its primary cloud provider and training partner. The company presented the Google and Broadcom agreement as an expansion of that existing Google Cloud relationship, following a prior TPU-capacity announcement the previous October. [1]

Atlas interpretation: The announced 3.5 gigawatts are therefore a disclosed route into one supplier stack inside a broader compute portfolio, not evidence that Anthropic had moved all of Claude to Google hardware. The start date, commercial-success condition and forward-looking warning in Broadcom's filing also make this a capacity commitment with execution risk, rather than a measurement of capacity delivered on April 6.
