An investigation into acquisition conditions
SAMR’s December 9, 2024 statement said NVIDIA was suspected of violating China’s Anti-Monopoly Law and the conditions in the agency’s 2020 Mellanox acquisition approval. It announced an investigation; the notice itself did not announce a penalty or explain a geopolitical motive. [1]
A later preliminary finding
In September 2025, SAMR said its preliminary investigation found violations and that it would investigate further. That statement is a later procedural development, distinct from the December 2024 opening of the case and from any final sanction or remedy. [3]
