A model developer inside an enterprise product
Writer develops the Palmyra language-model family alongside software for enterprise AI workflows. Founded in 2020 by May Habib and Waseem AlShikh, it currently describes its platform around marketing and revenue teams, combining company information, brand context and agents that produce content or perform work. [1]
Its own models are a concrete research and product contribution, while its platform supplies the surrounding interfaces and controls. These roles do not require the stronger claim that every task always runs on a Writer model: current administration documentation also lets organizations configure which models teams can use. [3]
Adding actions to generated answers
Palmyra X 004 introduced tool calling in October 2024. The model could select tools exposed by a developer and sequence operations across external systems, alongside retrieval of company knowledge. The launch made it available in Ask Writer and AI Studio with a 128,000-token context window. [2][3]
The original release is now labeled Palmyra X4 on Writer's blog; the historical changelog preserves the X 004 name. Structured output generation was still listed as coming later in that announcement. These distinctions keep the shipped model and application access separate from planned features and subsequent model generations. [2][3]
