Upstage builds the Solar language-model family alongside tools that parse documents and extract structured information. The company says it was founded in 2020 and lists hubs in Seoul, San Francisco and Tokyo. Its current site identifies the legal company as Upstage Co., Ltd. [1][3]
A hosted reasoning-model milestone
Upstage released Solar Pro 2 in July 2025 as a 31-billion-parameter model with chat and reasoning modes. The release also described tool use for multi-step tasks and explicitly offered API access through the Upstage Console. It did not announce public weights. [2]
A practical place in the ecosystem
The combination addresses a common enterprise workflow: make information in PDFs, scans or forms usable, then apply a language model to the resulting material. Upstage sells these as distinct capabilities. The company’s benchmark and accuracy claims do not by themselves establish reliability for a customer’s particular document collection or business process. [3][2]
