Music generation with editing controls
Udio develops music-generation models and a product for iterating on songs. Its July 2024 v1.5 release described key control, remixing uploaded audio and separating a generated track into vocals, bass, drums and other material. These controls gave creators ways to revise or reuse components instead of only requesting a complete new song. [1]
The release acknowledged that key control could miss the requested result. It also offered downloads at that time, which should not be confused with later access: the October 2025 Universal agreement announcement removed downloads during a stated product transition. [1][2]
Licensing arrangements are not acquisitions
Udio announced a Warner Music Group agreement on November 19, 2025. Like its Universal arrangement, it outlined a future service involving participating artists and licensed model development. The signed agreement is a concrete milestone; the announcement did not mean the planned service was already generally available. [3]
Udio explicitly said that the labels had not bought the company. Its transition account also distinguished existing creation tools and models from the planned new service. That makes its role both technical and commercial: developing generation software while negotiating how rights holders and artists would participate in later products. [3]
