Code completion and the Cursor integration
Supermaven developed an AI code-completion tool that used a larger surrounding code context. Its February 2024 introduction described a 300,000-token context window at that launch. That is a historical product specification, rather than a timeless description of every later version or a measure of useful accuracy on every repository. [2]
The company announced joining Cursor on November 12, 2024. Its later sunset notice explicitly referred to the acquisition a year earlier, supplying confirmation of the completed relationship with Cursor's parent, Anysphere. [3][1]
On November 21, 2025, Supermaven said it was sunsetting the standalone business and agent-conversation features. It also said existing customers would continue to receive autocomplete inference for free for the foreseeable future. Those are different lifecycle facts: the standalone business ended, but the announcement did not say that every existing customer's autocomplete service shut down that day. [1]
Its place in the AI coding ecosystem is therefore both a historical completion product and technology brought into Cursor. Current descriptions should retain that distinction rather than presenting Supermaven as an unchanged independent subscription service. [3][1]
