Stack Overflow is a developer question-and-answer platform founded in 2008. Its business also includes private organizational knowledge tools, now presented as Stack Internal, and licensing technical content for AI use. The community and enterprise products supply knowledge and retrieval material alongside AI automation rather than constituting a foundation-model lab. [1]

The May 2024 OpenAI partnership described OpenAI using OverflowAPI to improve developer-oriented model performance and surface attributed technical knowledge in ChatGPT. Stack Overflow in turn planned to use OpenAI models in OverflowAI. The agreement explains a concrete data and product-development relationship; it does not establish how much subsequent traffic change was caused by AI tools. [2]
