Software for physical manipulation
Sanctuary AI develops learned robot control and dexterous manipulation technology. Its 2023 Phoenix unveiling paired a humanoid platform with Carbon, a control architecture combining language-based task interpretation, learning, simulation and human supervision. Teleoperation was explicitly part of that architecture. [1][2]
Phoenix's human form did not mean every advertised task was autonomous. The control stack included human-in-the-loop operation and fleet management, while the company's broader goal was to learn increasingly general physical skills. The unveiling describes an approach and hardware generation, not a guarantee that a robot can replace a person across arbitrary jobs. [1]
Applying the models before a mass humanoid rollout
In June 2026, Sanctuary described a strategy of deploying its AI on existing industrial hardware rather than waiting for humanoid commercialization. Its example was a proof-of-concept wire-insertion task involving flexible materials and a moving conveyor at an unnamed automotive supplier. [3]
The company reported performance against that customer's production benchmarks. Those are bounded vendor results for one task, with a different deployment stage from broad factory adoption of Phoenix. The contribution is the manipulation system and its integration into a workcell, not simply the appearance of a humanoid body. [3]
