An AI cloud with an older corporate history
Nebius supplies GPU infrastructure and services for training and running AI models. Its cloud combines compute and networking with AI operations tools and managed inference. That places it in the capacity layer of the industry, supplying the infrastructure on which customers build and serve models. [1]
The current business should not be mistaken for a company incorporated from scratch in 2024. On July 15 that year, the Dutch parent Yandex N.V. completed the sale of its remaining interest in the Russian businesses. Its August shareholder-meeting announcement confirmed that the parent’s legal name had become Nebius Group N.V. The disposal and rename explain the corporate transition; neither record supplies a founding date for the AI cloud. [3][4]
Dedicated capacity and a buyer for the remainder
The March 16, 2026 Meta agreement illustrates two ways to commit to AI capacity. Nebius announced $12 billion of dedicated capacity across several locations, with delivery beginning in early 2027. Meta also committed to buy up to $15 billion of additional capacity left unsold to other customers over five years. [2]
Reuters placed the contract in the wider effort by large technology companies to secure compute from independent cloud providers. The distinction between the two commitments matters: the headline maximum includes a backstop for other sales, while the dedicated portion reserves capacity for Meta. Signing the agreement did not mean that all the planned infrastructure was already operating. [5][2]
