The company and the continuing app
Mirage builds the Captions app, its own video foundation models and an API. The company changed its name from Captions to Mirage on September 4, 2025. The announcement explicitly kept Captions as a product, so the old company name and the continuing app do not imply two unrelated organizations. [1][2]
The app supplies an editing surface for creators, while the model work targets generated short-form footage. The company's current account describes A-roll in which language and voice drive a synthetic presenter's lip movement, eye contact and expression. [1]
Generating the performance as well as the edit
The March 2025 Mirage model announcement described producing talking-video footage from scripts or supplied audio. It included generating the depicted person and environment, rather than only changing the lip movement of a prerecorded actor clip. That is a model-development contribution alongside the company's editing tools. [3]
The distinction matters for understanding the output: an apparently recorded presenter can be generated footage. The announcement's claims about realism and engagement are the company's account of its product, rather than independent evidence about audience response or permission to reproduce a particular person's likeness.
