Models and the products built around them
MiniMax develops models for language, video, speech and music and distributes them through its developer platform and its own applications. The company says it began in early 2022. Its portfolio includes MiniMax Code, MiniMax Design, audio tools and Talkie, so its role spans both supplying model inference and deciding how people use that inference in a finished product. [1]
That combination is visible in its October 2026 releases: one changed the language model available to developers, while another changed the desktop environment in which an agent's work could continue. They describe different parts of an AI system and have separate access conditions. [2][3]
A hosted model release with weights to follow
MiniMax M3.1 Flash launched on October 19, 2026 through the MiniMax API, M Plan and MiniMax Code. The announcement targeted coding, computer use and multi-step agent tasks. MiniMax also identified the previously anonymous Space Bunny model as an earlier version of the release. [2]
MiniMax reported median generation above 170 tokens per second and published benchmark comparisons for software engineering, computer operation and other tasks. These were the company's measurements, not a guarantee of application-level performance. The launch explicitly said model weights would arrive later: access to a hosted model and possession of downloadable weights were different states on that date. [2]
Giving agent work a persistent surface
On October 22, MiniMax Code introduced Mini Apps in local sessions of its macOS and Windows desktop app. A Mini App combines an interactive page with a Node.js backend and persistent data, allowing the agent and application to call one another. It gives ongoing work a surface that can change after the conversation that created it. [3]
The host manages ports, credentials and declared permissions; the announcement also says Mini App code runs locally as the user. Those are the vendor's stated boundaries for the feature, rather than a security audit. Its ecosystem significance is the move from generating a static answer or dashboard to running an application around an agent, with state and human interaction continuing between tasks. [3]
