Merck applies AI to drug research and co-develops investigational intismeran with Moderna. Its reported melanoma trial endpoints do not imply regulatory approval.

The US drugmaker known internationally as MSD

Merck & Co., Inc. is headquartered in Rahway, New Jersey and uses the MSD name outside the United States and Canada. This profile concerns that pharmaceutical company, whose business includes medicines and vaccines, rather than the separate German company sharing the Merck name. [1]

AI within research and development

Merck describes applying AI and machine learning to discovery, biomarkers, real-world evidence and trial operations. Its research account names KERMT for small-molecule lead optimization and discusses LLM-based agents. These describe tools and workflows; their presence does not establish the effectiveness of a particular medicine. [2]

An investigational individualized therapy

Merck and Moderna’s August 2026 announcement reported that intismeran plus pembrolizumab met recurrence-free and distant-metastasis-free survival endpoints in the phase 3 INTerpath-001 study. The sponsor described intismeran as investigational. Moderna separately explains that AI algorithms select candidate neoantigens from sequencing data; the trial evaluates a therapy regimen, not AI in isolation. [3][4]
