A gateway across model providers

LiteLLM develops a client library and a self-hosted gateway between applications and model providers. It normalizes request and response formats and adds operational controls such as routing, retries, fallbacks, virtual keys and spending limits. This gives applications a common access layer while the underlying model services remain distinct providers. [1]

That gateway can hold credentials and usage information across several providers, making its deployment and release chain consequential to AI operations. The open-source core is also separate from enterprise features offered under commercial terms; the availability of source code should not be read as unrestricted access to every paid capability. [2][1][3]

A compromised release and a revised investigation

The October 2026 release compromise affected published version 1.107.0 artifacts. LiteLLM's October 23 investigation traced the chain through a leaked agent-platform master key and privileged GitHub credentials. The company explicitly superseded some earlier assumptions, so the later canonical report is the source used here for its account of the attack path. [4]

The incident belongs in the company's history because it concerns the actual software supply chain behind a model gateway. The publisher's remediation account does not by itself independently validate the security of every customer deployment or later release. [4]
