A creative toolmaker contributing a model

Krea develops image-generation technology as well as the tools through which people use it. Its Krea 1 research focused on a particular visual preference: reducing the oversaturated textures and polished appearance its authors associated with typical AI images. That is an aesthetic training objective, rather than a general measure of factual realism. [1]

On July 31, 2025, Krea and Black Forest Labs released FLUX.1 Krea dev. Krea's technical report describes an open-weight checkpoint distilled from Krea 1 and compatible with FLUX.1 dev. BFL's announcement independently identifies the collaboration, establishing Krea's role in developing the model. [1][2]

A checkpoint others can build around

Compatibility with an existing architecture lets developers reuse inference and adaptation tools instead of treating every new image model as an entirely new software stack. The report also explains the authors' pre-training and post-training choices, giving readers more to inspect than a gallery of selected outputs. [1]

The downloadable checkpoint carries FLUX's noncommercial model terms, with separate commercial licensing. The current license treats use of the model and its derivatives separately from use of generated outputs. Open access to a checkpoint is therefore a deployment option with conditions, not a statement that every downstream use is unrestricted. [3]
