A software platform for industrial robots
Intrinsic builds the software around industrial robotic applications. Its platform organizes reusable skills, perception, motion and workcell development so integrators can assemble a system for particular hardware and tasks. Skills can be manually engineered or AI-enabled; using the platform does not mean every robot action is generated by a foundation model. [1]
In February 2026, Intrinsic explicitly said it had joined Google as a distinct group. That current relationship is more specific than its earlier status as an Alphabet Other Bet. Its product role remained industrial robotics software, with collaboration across Google's AI and cloud teams. [1]
Releasing a reusable control layer
Intrinsic Core's September 2026 release put runtime, control and other ROS-compatible building blocks on GitHub, alongside a machine-tending reference solution. The project includes capabilities for perception, planning, calibration and simulation, connecting learned components with the machinery needed to execute robot behavior. [2][3]
The repository's Apache license applies to the released project, while its README disclaims official Google product support. That open code is distinct from commercial services and from separately supplied model dependencies; the announcement's FoundationPose integration does not place all third-party weights under the project's license.
