AI inside learning products

Duolingo is an education company founded in 2011. Its products apply learning data and AI to practice and feedback, with the app expanding from languages into subjects including Math, Music and Chess. This is a learning-product role, with AI used inside an instructional experience rather than simply exposed as a general chatbot. [1]

Duolingo Max adds generative conversation features, including Roleplay scenarios and Video Call with Lily. Its current product description says human experts design the scenarios and review generated material. Those features should not all be backdated to Max's original launch: the page now describes an expanded product. [2]

The 2025 AI-first announcement concerned how the company intended to organize work as well as develop content. It is a corporate policy milestone, separate from evidence that a particular learning feature improves outcomes or that all course material is generated without human review. [3]
