Teams of agents inside a workflow
CrewAI develops a framework and enterprise platform for applications involving multiple AI agents. Its current documentation separates Crews, groups of agents assigned goals and tools, from Flows, which manage application state and control when work proceeds. The distinction gives a developer a way to put model-directed collaboration inside a defined process. [1]
A Flow can start from an event, maintain state and use conditions or branches to decide what happens next. It can delegate a task to a Crew, collect the result and continue. CrewAI's contribution is this organization of application behavior around models and tools. Giving agents different roles is a design mechanism, not evidence that they reason independently or produce a correct answer. [1]
A commercial layer over the framework
CrewAI Enterprise launched on October 22, 2024, following a private beta. The company described Enterprise Cloud as a way to build, deploy, monitor and revise agent systems using its open-source framework. Crew Studio supplied a visual building surface, while the platform added access controls, support and testing tools. [2]
That release put two distribution models alongside one another: developers could use the framework, and organizations could buy a managed environment for operating the resulting systems. The press release's claimed adoption figures and performance benefits were company statements. The concrete milestone is the available enterprise product and its operational features, rather than those promotional measurements. [2]
