A regional commission measuring AI development

The Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe is a United Nations regional commission headquartered in Santiago, Chile. It was established on February 25, 1948, and its name expanded to include the Caribbean in 1984. Its English name is Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, abbreviated ECLAC. [1][2]

CEPAL’s role in the 2023 ILIA presentation went beyond lending a venue: it jointly organized the launch with CENIA within its regional digital-development work. CENIA authored and presented the initial results; CEPAL convened the development-policy discussion and presented the index to the region. This is a contribution to AI measurement and policy analysis, rather than a claim that CEPAL trained a foundation model. [3][4][5]
