Generative tools inside a design workflow

Canva puts AI capabilities inside software for creating presentations, documents, marketing material and other visual content. Its Magic Studio tools generate first drafts, transform copy and formats, and help people revise images or assemble media within the same editing environment. Brand kits and manual editing remain part of the workflow around generation. [2]

That is an application contribution as well as a distribution role: a model's output becomes a draft that people can adapt to a team's format and brand. The suite brings several kinds of generative capability together; the presence of a tool in Canva does not mean Canva developed every underlying model. [2]

Acquiring a model-development business

Canva announced its acquisition of Leonardo.Ai in July 2024. Its statement described Leonardo's model research and creative platform continuing with Canva's backing. This added an in-house research and product team alongside the wider collection of AI tools Canva distributed. [1]

At the announcement, integrating Leonardo's Phoenix model into Magic Studio was still a plan. The acquisition established ownership and a research contribution, while continued separate operation of Leonardo's platform described the product arrangement. It did not establish immediate availability of every proposed integration. [1]
