Human research and automated security testing
Bugcrowd dates its founding in Australia to 2012. Its services connect organizations with security researchers for testing and vulnerability discovery. That operating model provides the context for its AI work: combining human investigation with automated techniques, rather than treating a model’s output alone as a verified vulnerability. [1][3]
The Mayhem contribution
In its November 2025 Mayhem Security acquisition, Bugcrowd acquired technology for API testing, code security and runtime analysis of software dependencies. The announcement also described reinforcement-learning work. Bugcrowd’s claims about future integration benefits are company expectations, not an independent measurement of every customer’s security outcome. [2][3]
Mayhem’s earlier ForAllSecure team won DARPA’s autonomous hacking competition in 2016. Bugcrowd became the acquirer years later and is not credited as a participant in that competition. [3]
