What Brookfield does

Brookfield traces its roots to a Brazilian utility founded in 1899 and has grown into a Toronto-based owner and operator of infrastructure, real estate, renewable power and private credit, with more than $1 trillion under management. Bruce Flatt is chief executive of Brookfield Corporation, the parent; Connor Teskey is chief executive of Brookfield Asset Management, the publicly traded asset-management subsidiary that runs most of the firm's fee-earning funds, including its AI infrastructure push. [1][2][3]

Unlike a typical real estate landlord, Brookfield owns generation and power assets directly through Brookfield Renewable, which gives it a position most competitors lack: it can pair a data center site with the power supply it needs rather than negotiating for grid capacity as a separate buyer. [3]

A dedicated AI infrastructure program

In November 2025, Brookfield launched a program targeting up to $100 billion for AI infrastructure, seeded with a $10 billion Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Fund. Roughly half that initial commitment came from institutional partners, reported to include NVIDIA and the Kuwait Investment Authority. As part of the program, Brookfield launched Radiant, a subsidiary structured as an NVIDIA Cloud Partner that leases AI chip capacity directly to customers, positioning itself to undercut established cloud providers on price by combining Brookfield's data center sites, its own power supply and capital in one package. The initial fund is backing data center projects reported in France, Qatar and Sweden. [4][5]

Brookfield has also struck AI-specific power deals at large scale outside the Radiant program: a strategic partnership with Bloom Energy that started at $5 billion in October 2025 and was expanded fivefold to $25 billion by June 2026 to build and finance power generation for AI data centers, and a reported 10.5 gigawatt renewable energy agreement with Microsoft. [6][7]

Why it matters to AI

Atlas interpretation: Brookfield's relevance to AI is as a capital and power provider rather than a technology company. The industry's growth is bottlenecked less by chip design than by how quickly gigawatts of power and the buildings to house compute can be sited, financed and built, and Brookfield is one of a small number of firms with the balance sheet and the generation assets to do all three at once. That positions it, alongside peers like Blackstone, as one of the parties whose financing decisions determine how fast AI infrastructure actually gets built, separate from how fast a lab can design a model. [4][6]

Brookfield on the timeline

In August 2026, Brookfield was named alongside Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Goldman Sachs and KKR as one of six firms NVIDIA said it would partner with to establish independent AI compute financing platforms aimed at mobilizing more than $500 billion of third-party capital, underwritten on the argument that NVIDIA GPUs hold resale and reuse value across customers. What was signed were memoranda of understanding, not a capitalized fund: no platform had closed and no borrower had been named. [8]

Atlas interpretation: That August announcement sits alongside Brookfield's own AI infrastructure program rather than replacing it. Radiant and the Bloom Energy and Microsoft power deals are Brookfield acting as principal, building and financing sites it will operate or lease. The NVIDIA-convened platform is a proposed additional structure for third-party lending against GPU collateral, where Brookfield's role, like the other five firms named, is still undefined pending final agreements.
