Language models and medical-model research

Baichuan develops language models for Chinese and English use. Its September 2023 Baichuan 2 release provided 7B and 13B base and chat checkpoints. The repository also includes inference and fine-tuning examples and intermediate training checkpoints. These are reusable model and research artifacts, rather than only access through a chatbot. The Baichuan 2 repository distinguishes its Apache 2.0 source code from model-weight terms. Its documentation permits academic research and asks developers to apply for official permission before commercial use. The company’s later Baichuan-M3 work focuses on medical inquiry, information gathering and clinical reasoning through post-training methods.
