Astera Labs

A semiconductor connectivity company linking processors, accelerators, memory and networking inside AI infrastructure. Its Scorpio switches and COSMOS management software address data movement and observability rather than executing the model’s main computation.

Connecting the components of AI systems

Astera Labs develops connectivity silicon and accompanying software for AI and cloud infrastructure. Its products address the links among CPUs, accelerators, network interfaces and storage. That role matters because an accelerator depends on moving data through the rest of its system. [1]

Two different fabric-switch roles

The October 2024 Scorpio introduction distinguished P-Series switches for mixed head-node PCIe traffic from X-Series designs for GPU clustering. COSMOS adds telemetry and diagnostics for observing those connections. These are interconnect products, rather than another GPU architecture. [1]

Preproduction quantities have a specific meaning

The announcement said head-node PCIe 6 switches were shipping in preproduction quantities. That establishes physical customer availability at that stage, without proving volume deployment of every product on the roadmap or independently confirming the company’s efficiency claims. [1]
