01.AI was founded in Beijing in May 2023 under Kai-Fu Lee. The company develops foundation models and enterprise AI systems. Its current portfolio includes the WorldWise platform for model deployment and fine-tuning, and the TrueNorth platform for enterprise decision workflows. Those are company product lines, rather than separate organizations. [1][5]

The May 2024 Yi-1.5 release supplied 6B, 9B and 34B models, with base and chat versions. The team continued training from Yi and released Yi-1.5 code and weights under Apache 2.0. This gave developers downloadable Chinese/English model artifacts alongside the company’s hosted-model business. The license statement is specific to Yi-1.5, rather than a claim that all historical Yi releases or enterprise services have identical terms. [2][3][4]
